Cape Fear Academy edges shorthanded Vikings

Posted Saturday, October 06, 2012 by Tim Hower
Hoggard's eight-match winning streak came to an end on Friday with a 5-4 loss to Cape Fear Academy in a non-conference showdown.
     The Vikings
(9-3) played without No. 2 player Anna Hodges and having to push everyone up a spot proved to be too difficult. Hoggard won the first meeting between the two teams 6-3 by winning 5 of 6 singles matches. On Friday, the Hurricanes dominated singles, winning 4 courts.
McKayla Zupan and Lydia Hartley picked up the singles wins on courts 1 and 4. Zupan teamed with Melanie Post for a win at 1 doubles and Hartley and Brianna Smith won 8-2 on court 2.
Hoggard can clinch the Mideastern Conference title for the second consecutive year with a win at Ashley on Monday.
