Hoggard drops a pair, finishes fourth at PCI

     Hoggard dropped a pair of matches to ranked teams on Saturday to finish fourth at the annual Port City Invitational.
     In the semifinals, sophomore Kara Ferner registered the lone win at No. 2 singles as East Chapel Hill, ranked sixth in 4A, advanced to the finals with a 5-1 rain-shortened victory.
     Rocky Mount, ranked fifth in 3A, took a 6-3 decision in the third-place match. Ferner and Lauren Traflet earned singles wins at No. 2 and 6 respectively. Ferner capped her perfect day by teaming with Melanie Post in an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
     The Vikings (1-2) begin Mideastern Conference play on Tuesday at South Brunswick at 4 p.m.
