Posted Saturday, October 18, 2014 by Tim Hower
Melanie Post and Kara Ferner captured the 4A Mideastern Conference doubles title without dropping a set Thursday at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.

The Hoggard duo easily advanced to the finals, dropping just two games in their first two matches. In the finals, Post and Ferner downed Laney's Erin Nesselroade and Anna Porcelli 6-1, 7-5.

After cruising in the opening set, Post and Ferner jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second set. The Laney team reeled off five consecutive games to take the lead before Hoggard closed out the match with three games in a row.

Claudia Opper will join Post and Ferner at next weekend's 4A East Regionals. Opper finished third in singles after rallying for a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Laney's Jessica Tucker.

The regionals begin on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.
